Summary

This one day interactive public and products liability insurance training workshop will develop or update delegates’ existing knowledge of the principles and practice of Liability insurance with particular regard to Public and Products risks.

Our intermediate-level public and products liability insurance training workshop is suitable for more experienced delegates involved in either underwriting, claims or broking who are looking to update, supplement or develop their basic knowledge.

Course Content

  • How liability arises – at common law (main torts and defences), under contract (Sale & Supply of Goods Act, Unfair Contract Terms Act) and under statute (Occupiers Liability Acts, Defective Premises Act, Environment Acts and Consumer Protection Act)
  • Liability insurance policy cover, exclusions and extensions
  • An introduction to some of the specialist liability insurance covers including financial loss, professional indemnity, environmental impairment and product guarantee/recall
  • Main underwriting and pricing features, including premises risks, pollution, work away, defective design and North American exposures
  • Risk management and its relevance to liability insurance
  • Claims – handling processes and recent legal/social developments ( e.g. Woolf reforms, RIDDOR).

Learning Objectives

  • Assess liability exposures and make recommendations for relevant Public and Products Liability Insurance coverage for different types of customer
  • Explain the cover usually provided under Public and Products Liability Insurance policies and how this could be amended to meet the needs of particular customers
  • Outline the cover available under Financial Loss, Product Guarantee/Recall, and Environmental Impairment Liability policies
  • Explain the main considerations which impact on the underwriting of Public and Products Liability Insurance risks
  • Explain the Liability Insurance claims handling process and the importance of the Woolf reforms.
