This motor trade insurance training workshop is designed for account handlers and other staff who have been involved with motor trade insurance for some time and who are already familiar with the standard cover and terminology associated with this class of insurance.

The participative workshop goes beyond the motor issues and encourages delegates to consider the wider insurance needs of the motor trader.

  • After attending this workshop, delegates will be able to:
    • Explain the concept of motor trade cover and how this cover interfaces with the needs of motor traders and other similar businesses
    • List the obligations on a motor trader as a result of the 4th EU Motor Directive (i.e. the Motor Insurance Database)
    • Describe how motor trade certificates are constructed and how standard policy extensions are shown in certificates
    • Compare and contrast how different insurers provide road risks cover and garage risks cover
    • List the most popular policy extensions and describe the cover provided by each one
    • Demonstrate how insurers underwrite and rate motor trade risks and how they adapt their covers to the different risks
    • Give examples of how risk management methods can be applied to the risk assessment process.
  • Workshop content includes:
    • Analysis of different trades and occupations and how motor trade covers are adapted to suit their needs
    • A study of the current requirements of the Motor Insurance Database and how it affects motor traders
    • Using a selection of policies, examine how insurers provide cover and highlight major differences between insurers
    • Using a case study, identify and compare the non-motor covers required by the different types of motor trader with those of other, similar, commercial risks
    • Using a case study, discuss the measures available to a motor trader to reduce exposure to loss.
