This workshop is aimed at those who are new to motor insurance or who has recently started working with this class of business. It will also be valuable for those responsible for training or supervising staff who handle private motor insurance.

It covers the legal aspects of motor insurance as well as the basics of private motor underwriting and policy cover.

The workshop is participative and includes a mixture of traditional learning, practical examples and case studies.

List the factors an underwriter uses to assess a private motor insurance risk

Provide an overview of the private motor insurance claims processes

WORKSHOP CONTENT

An explanation of the law relating to motor insurance, including the Road Traffic Acts and EU Motor Insurance Directives

Using a policy booklet, an examination of the cover, conditions and exclusions in a typical private motor insurance policy

An examination of the content of; certificates, schedules and renewal invitations.

How cars are grouped – an introduction to the ABI car grouping process

Explanation of the various Thatcham categories of vehicle security devices.

An overview of underwriting, including rating factors, terms and relevance of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974
