This one day interactive workshop is aimed at staff who are dealing with motor insurance for the first time or who have only recently been introduced to the subject.

The course will cover the legal aspects of motor insurance as well as the basics of underwriting and policy cover.

• explain the legal requirements of compulsory motor insurance legislation
• describe how the UK motor insurance industry deals with the victims of uninsured drivers
• list various documents associated with a motor policy
• explain the purpose of each of the sections of a motor policy
• list the factors an underwriter uses to assess motor risks
• provide an overview of the motor claims processes

• An explanation of the law relating to motor insurance
• How cover, exclusions and other terms are set out in a typical policy document
• An examination of the content of certificates, schedules and renewal invitations
• How cars are grouped – an introduction to the ABI car grouping process
• An explanation of the various Thatcham categories of vehicle security devices
• An overview of underwriting, including rating factors, terms and relevance of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and other legislation
