I got such a lot out of this programme.

I found the trainer’s style and approach to be ideal. Extremely professional however with a personal touch drawing from her own background experience which is coupled with a current knowledge and understanding. She made the content more relevant to our own circumstances, and was able to give examples of how this would work in the workplace.   She has an instant likeability; a proven and demonstrated knowledge which is portrayed via an honest approach and a style that I found easy to follow understand and learn from.    She creates a fun, enjoyable learning environment in which participation is encouraged however not forced.

In reference to the course itself, as it is split over 4 days with expectations of implementation between days, there is an onus on the participants to deliver – otherwise there is no point in attending the course.  The time between days allows you to put into practise what has been learned and identify any further learning needs relative to the course content.  The course objectives are set, however are then tailored to meet the needs of the participants – queries are addressed and questions satisfied.

I would recommend this trainer to colleagues and friends, and should the opportunity arise would very much like to participate in one of her courses again.  At the end of each day you are left ‘looking forward’ to returning to the workplace to ‘get going’.

We partnered with Searchlight to provide our brokers with an Introduction to Commercial Combined and Property Owners products.  Ian and Diane (our trainer) both listened very carefully to our needs, criteria and specification to build two training days around NIG’s risk appetite and policy wording.

It was apparent that every need of the training content was built around NIG’s asking.  Careful time and consideration was also taken when Diane spoke  to our head office underwriters to gain all the correct information and this was done in a professional and timely manner.

Feedback from the training days was so positive from our Brokers who attended and I’d like to thank Ian and the team.  We look forward to hosting Judy later this year for Motor Trade and Motor Fleet product training.

Nottingham Insurance InstituteAs a local institute syllabus secretary for many years I have regularly approached Searchlight to provide quality training sessions for our members and non-members. The standard of presentations is extremely high and the presenters who have delivered sessions for us are knowledgeable in their subject and highly competent in the way they present.

LV=BrokerOur Brokers want to speak to decision makers who ‘know their stuff’ and Searchlight have really helped us to develop and build this capability. This was really highlighted when LV= Broker were announced as winners of the Brokers’ Insurer of the Year Award in 2014.

Searchlight have partnered with LV= Broker to deliver a breadth and depth of technical training that addresses a number of needs across our business.

When we were looking for Motor Fleet and Motor Trade training for example we couldn’t find anything suitable on the open market. Searchlight listened to what we needed and were able to create bespoke courses for us at two levels to allow learners to develop their technical knowledge. Our underwriters have also benefitted from delivery of Business Interruption, Liability, Private Motor and Household insurance training.

As our training proposition has grown I have had an opportunity to get to know several of the consultants employed by Searchlight really well. I have been hugely impressed by their technical knowledge and experience, and also with their ability to bring the subject matter of the training to life with compelling stories and anecdotes. I am also really pleased with relationship I have developed with the management and support team at Searchlight. Nothing is ever too much trouble and Searchlight really are a pleasure to work with.

Searchlight delivered an excellent 7 module Syndicate Business Plan Foundation Programme for the LMA Academy for 24 delegates. They were given a brief that required the delivery of a technical programme based upon the Lloyd’s Syndicate Business Plan. This covered a wide range of subjects which included, business planning and strategy, re-insurance, underwriting technicalities and standards, delegated underwriting, risk management and catastrophe modelling as well as financial performance.

In addition they were briefed to ensure that each module was highly interactive and that all delegates actively  participated in each module. Both objectives were achieved.

They delivered the programme in a highly professional manner and the feedback received from the participants and their managing agent sponsors have confirmed this view. The LMA Academy will be running this programme twice a year in partnership with Searchlight.

Since joining JLT 14 months ago, I have attended a number of courses through Broker Academy. As I am new to the General Insurance world, I undertook the Introduction to Insurance and Principles of Insurance courses.

Both courses were fantastic for providing me with a basic knowledge of insurance terms, procedures and principals. They enabled me to study for and pass my IF1 exam recently and have given me the tools to proceed towards attaining my IF2.

I have also attended the Introductory and Intermediate Property Insurance courses, which again have been of real value to me. Whilst I am not at the “coal face” of placing covers, it is imperative that I have a clear understanding of the issues that can arise, so that I can advise my clients of what is happening and more importantly why it is happening.

As my knowledge is growing, I am seeking to learn more about different classes of insurance and am due to attend the Professional Indemnity Insurance course shortly.

I have found the courses offered by Broker Academy to be invaluable. The tutors have always provided an enjoyable course and they have been interactive sessions, which makes for a productive learning forum as we are able to ask questions specific to our roles.

UNITAS Training Academy required a regular and ‘bespoke’ Sales Course that was able to satisfy the varying needs of our membership, that was not ‘off the peg’ and that delivered a consistent outcome in improved sales skills.

Having put this out to tender and interview, Searchlight / Broker Academy offered the best solution. They were able to provide a trainer with vast sales experience in both the insurer and broker marketplace and who worked with us in the design of our required course. The course is now a regular offering for the UNITAS Academy, receives high commendation from delegates, and is continuously ‘fine-tuned’ in liaison with Searchlight following both trainer and delegate feedback.

The Insurance Partnership (TIP) is a successful independent general insurance broker with a head office situated in Hull. It was established in September 1993 and in now the City’s largest Insurance Broker and has aspirations to “become one of the most profitable and professional commercial insurance brokers in the Region and indeed the UK by being totally client and insurer focused.” It currently employs approximately 140 general insurance staff across four locations (Hull, York, Lichfield and Sutton Coldfield), as well as a number of Financial Services and Commercial Finance employees.

In 2007, the organisation began a comprehensive review of its training and competence responsibilities. This was as a result of the organisational development challenges associated with significant growth and the need to meet regulatory obligations imposed upon FSA authorised companies.

Searchlight Insurance Training was appointed to undertake a comprehensive analysis of training needs and to deliver a planned and structured programme of HR initiatives. This began in 2008 with a major corporate training needs analysis exercise, and the scoping of a project that would encompass all aspects of performance management, as well as additional HR initiatives.

The coming months saw the design and initial implementation of a tailored competency framework, crafted for TIP and supported by a bespoke job family, appraisal and recruitment and selection system. 2009 will see the first full roll out of the new process, following a pilot in the autumn of 2008.

At every stage, Searchlight has recognised TIP’s major priority to meet the aspirations of a highly successful and growing company whilst capturing the FSA’s T&C and SYSC requirements in every people management initiative. The focus has – and continues to be – the use of integrated and value for money initiatives that will assist the company in meeting its strategic objectives and provide longevity for years after completion of the project.

NFU Mutual Insurance Society is a major national insurer which conducts its business through a network of over 300 local agencies across the UK. Whilst its roots are within the farming industry, today it continues to grow and broaden its horizons in the wider rural community.

NFU Mutual has developed its underwriting strategy particularly towards commercial insurances to underpin its controlled growth strategy. The targeting of a number of defined trades and sectors that had not previously been a key source of business is contributing to this. This change in approach called for improvement in risk awareness, underwriting and rating judgement.

Searchlight Insurance Training began work in July 2007 to contribute to the development of a programme of integrated and bespoke training workshops that would meet the specific requirements of NFU Mutual’s underwriting strategy.

The process involved meeting underwriting and surveying staff from NFU Mutual and interpreting their roles and function within the context of their strategy. Searchlight designed and delivered bespoke case studies and other technical training material which has contributed to the success of the programme.

The post course workshop evaluation and analysis has provided consistently positive feedback, contributing to the continuous and ongoing development of the training materials.
